Standard 4
Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meet the multiple learning needs of students.
The teacher:

e. Connects students’ prior knowledge, life experiences, and interests in the instructional process.
Write a reflective essay in which you evaluate your videotaped lesson. Your essay should highlight evidence within the videotape that you are meeting standard 2. E-mail your completed essay to Stone by Nov. 20.
Your reflective essay will address the criteria b, c, d, and e. Suggested points to include in your essay:
Describe the featured activity in the context within a particular curricular unit.
In a short paragraph, describe your classroom of learners. (i.e. academic ability, personalities, cultural background, family circumstances, etc.) You don't need to describe every student. Select specific examples to highlight how you know your students and are able to individualize based on that knowledge.
In a paragraph, substantiate the research basis for your instructional strategies (criteria b).
In a paragraph, point out examples within your tape in which you demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in adjusting instruction to meet individual needs (criteria c).
In a paragraph, describe the variety of experiences you provide within the taped lesson that demonstrate your abilities to meet diverse needs while promoting student growth (criteria d).
Describe how you made connections using prior knowledge, life experiences and interests through this lesson (criteria e).
Helpful hints:
- Try to choose a lesson to tape in which students are actively involved in learning.
- Show the teacher guiding the lesson through focused questions as you work with groups of students.
- Include a brief description of the important parts of the taped lesson.
- Try to show/describe how you meet individual needs through this taped lesson. Your lesson should show you in different capacities.
- Don't write too much.
